Portrush Sub-Aqua Club (Skerrie Scuba Squad)

Portrush Sub-Aqua ClubPortrush Sub-Aqua Club (Skerrie Scuba Squad) was formed over 40 years ago and is a branch of the British Sub Aqua Club (BSAC). We are a special category branch in that we are a sporting section within Portrush Yacht Club, so all new diving members must also become members of Portrush Yacht Club.

We currently have at approximately 30 diving members from trainee divers all the way up to advanced divers.  Some of the original members, who were involved in the pioneering dives of the famous Spanish Armada ship, “The GIRONA”, are still active within the club, and are a mind of knowledge and information in relation to local diving, dive sites, weather and tides.

We have a highly motivated team of instructors who voluntarily commit their time to training all new divers.  Training is made as enjoyable as possible, whilst still adhering to all BSAC safe diving guidelines.

We have access to all of the facilities available at Portrush Yacht Club, including 2 RIBS, a Compressor (new last year), Showers and of course, The Bar!

The Club meets on Wednesday evenings at 7pm and Sunday mornings at 10am at Portrush Yacht Club all year round.

Try dives are usually held around the end of October, and are free to all who attend.  Initial diver training then commences for all who are interested, and is carried out at Portrush Yacht Club for classroom lessons, and at Coleraine Leisure Centre, in the main swimming pool, for in-water training each Wednesday night from late October until early spring, when we progress into Portrush harbour.

We dive all over Northern Ireland including Rathlin Island, and Donegal. The Skerries, our favourite playground, is right on our door step, and has a swim through, endless gullies, reefs, drop offs and an abundance of marine life.  Our 3 local wrecks include The Sard, The Towy, and The Nokimis, and are all short boats rides from Portrush.  We also have loads of shore dives available, our favourites including the Blue Pool and Portnhapple, not to mention the Portrush Harbour if the weather is bad.

If you want to dive the beautiful North Coast and beyond, why not get in touch with either Jill Tynan(Diving Officer), Tim Tynan(Training Officer), Peter Stephens(Chairman) or Kenny Wilkinson(Membership Secretary) at:-
